Honolulu Theatre for Youth continues its 60th season with the world premiere of HAPPY, by local children’s theatre playwright Annie Cusick Wood. The play is designed especially for tiny tots, offering an age appropriate experience that focuses on what makes us happy.
HAPPY is onstage Saturdays, February 14, 21 and 28 at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 am. It is recommended for ages 3 and up. All shows are at Tenney Theatre. All tickets are $10; visit www.htyweb.org or call 839-9885 to purchase. ASL-interpreted show is Saturday, Feb. 21 at 11:30 a.m.
Created and directed by Annie Cusick Wood, the writer/director responsible for HTY’s hits BLUE, PETER RABBIT and AUNTIE MARTHA AND THE NENE (GOOSE), this charming show explores empathy, kindness, friendship and things that make us smile, and is perfect for our youngest audiences. In the play, JOLLY and MOLLY arrive at a bus stop and begin waiting for the bus that will take them to a place called HAPPY. However, the bus they so eagerly anticipate gets later and later as the day goes on, leaving our two characters with no other choice than try to find HAPPY on their own.
Wood said, “This tale reminds us that it is not the destination that makes us happy but how we choose to participate in the journey.”
