Honolulu Theatre for Youth’s 2010-11 “Season of Science” continues with Theory of Mind by Ken LaZebnik. The play opens Friday, Jan. 7 at 7:30 p.m., and then plays Saturdays, Jan. 8, 15 & 22 4:30 p.m. at Tenney Theatre on the grounds of The Cathedral Church of St. Andrew. It is ideal for ages 8 and up.

What is normal? For any teenager facing questions of dating, social relationships, school and faith this question can be confusing. For a teen on the autism spectrum (see following page), they can be downright baffling.

Theory of Mind introduces Bill, a 16 year-old with extraordinary abilities, an incredible memory, and a charm that is sweetly endearing.  He’s also autistic…and falling in love. With humor and thoughtfulness, the play explores the challenges of this young man who wants desperately to be in love and to love someone, but struggles for the social skills to achieve a successful and rewarding relationship. As he learns to navigate his way through life, love and relationships, Bill learns that there are no easy answers. Performance is followed by a short discussion.

Theory of Mind is directed by HTY Artistic Director Eric Johnson. Cast is Junior Tesoro as Bill and Nina Buck as Hilo. Lighting designer is Christopher Corley; set & props designer is H. Bart McGeehon; costume designer is Sandra Payne; sound designer is Barrett Hoover.

Single tickets are $16 for adults, and $8 for youth (18 and under) and seniors (over 60). For more information, to receive a season brochure, order tickets to a show or learn more about HTY’s educational programming call HTY at 839-9885. Tickets may also be ordered online at www.htyweb.org.
